The Christmas Rush: selling against the clock

Home » The Christmas Rush: selling against the clock

‘I won’t sell at this time of year’ we hear this a lot in the run up to the festive season.

But at Coalters we beg to differ. It’s now just under 8 weeks until the big C word, which still leaves time for those last minute buyers to spend the 25th in their new home!

You can move in before Christmas!

We want to be ‘in for Christmas’

Year after year we find more and more people wanting to be ‘in before the Christmas’, and we work hard for our clients until we can hear the bells on Santa’s Sleigh! Last year Jade negotiated a sale on Christmas Eve – true dedication to the cause:

‘We were against the clock…. the buyer wanted to secure the property before the Christmas break, the vendor was eager to sell. Luckily both parties were very set on getting the result they both wanted, and it was great knowing we were able to deliver that service.’

To get results at this time of year, it takes a proactive team like Coalters and a buyer and seller who are both motivated and in strong positions for a quick completion. Where there is a will, there is a way!

New Year also brings plenty of new jobs and new starts which means… you guessed it… lots of people moving! An influx of people to the area is a really positive thing for those on the market towards the back end of the year.

Keep your house cosy when selling in winter

A cosy house works wonders with potential buyers in winter

How can I make my property more saleable in the bleak winter months?

Here are three simple but important tips to make winter viewings more successful:

  • ‘Winter proof’ your garden – a garden full of dead plants and bushes isn’t very appealing. Spend an hour in your garden tidying it up, cutting back any dead branches and consider investing in some plants that look good even through the winter.
  • Turn the heating on – a frosty house can feel like you’re getting a slightly frosty reception!  If you have an open fire or log burner, it’s lovely to get this going too.  You want potential buyers to imagine having a warm and cosy Christmas in your house.
  • Keep it light – our expert accompanied viewers always pop around and turn the lights on and open the curtains.  This will make the property more appealing, especially now it is getting darker much earlier.
