As you may have seen from our previous blogs, Tracey Hughes is our new Mortgage Adviser; providing advice and protection for our prospective buyers, sellers and landlords. Today we’ve taken the time to find out what a day in the life of Tracey looks like!
Tell us a bit about yourself..
I currently live on my own with my pug, Mojo, in Scarborough. I’ve been up north for most of my life after moving from Kent as a child. I haven’t always been in this line of work, after university I traveled around a bit as an entertainer – I spent quite a while in both Cyprus and Barcelona before settling down into my career.
What has stood out for you about Coalters?
It has to be the team. Everyone is just so friendly, I’ve only been here for about three weeks but I feel like I’ve been here for years! We must have a very good recruitment process as everybody is so similar and really fits in with the culture.
How did you end up working within Coalters?
My background is in financial services in a bank. I worked for Halifax for eight years but unfortunately I was made redundant. Maybe it was a bit of a blessing in disguise as it gave me a chance to think properly about what I wanted. In the end I decided it was time for a bit of a change and I had always wanted to work for myself, so I found the Mortgage Advice Bureau, who found Coalters! What a perfect fit.
What does your day usually look like?
I get up and walk Mojo (if you ever see me out, ignore my pyjamas)… Then get ready and make my way over to York to start the day. First thing I do is check my diary for the day then head to the morning meeting with my clients in my head to see if we have any new properties coming on that match their requirements. We then go through the valuers appointments for the day and any new instructions or offers, this is my chance to identify if there is anybody I can help on the mortgage side of things! The rest of my day is usually spent in the office or on the road on mortgage appointments and following up any potential clients from the previous few days.
What would be the best piece of advice you would give to a First Time Buyer?
Don’t forget the fees. There are so many and you really need to know what they are and know roughly what to put aside for them – budget, budget, budget! A few of these would be, solicitors fees, stamp duty, mortgage advice broker fees… You get the picture!
Lastly, what quote do you live by?
The one by Roald Dahl – ‘if you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sun beams and you will always look lovely’. It’s just so true!
