Meet Clara Witts – Talking to us about being a manager, mum and marooned with ‘Miranda’.
Hi Clara! Tell us a bit about yourself..
By day I am now an Assistant Sales Manager at Coalters, aside from that I am wife to Laurie and Mum to little Jackson, who has just turned three. I’ve always lived in York, so I am glad to be bringing Jackson up where I also grew up – it will always be home!
How long have you worked at Coalters?
Nearly two years now. I started off originally as a Junior Negotiator and have since been promoted twice. First to Senior Sales Negotiator and more recently to Assistant Sales Manager which I am really pleased with.
So, how did you end up here and what were you doing previously?
Prior to this, I worked in retail management for 10 years. When I started my family, I wanted to move to a role that allowed me to spend more time with them, which is when I started at Coalters. I quickly got the bug for Estate Agency; every day can be so different, which makes it really interesting.
Now that you’ve been promoted, what does your typical day look like?
I like to get to the office early to prepare the day and morning meetings – I’m very organised at work! We start with meetings with the team to go through what we did on the previous day and what we have to do for that day. I spend a lot of my day coaching the Sales Team and progressing sales right to completion day. I love this part because I get to hand people a bottle of fizz, their keys and see how excited they are to move to their new home.
You must have had some good memories over the past two years, what’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened at work?
It’s really hard to pick just one because there’s always so many funny times here. Everyone’s humour is very similar and we all know how to make each other laugh. When we were launching our Core Values, we were all split in to groups and had to mime to a song. It was absolutely hilarious watching Alex R as a Spice Girl, some of the boys singing Westlife and we even had a rendition of Bucks Fizz (skirt rip moment and everything).
What would you say is the best thing about working at Coalters?
Definitely working with people who are so passionate about what we do. The people are what makes this place so great to work as we always have fun and I’m sure the rest of the team would agree!
What’s the best piece of advice you have for vendors in York?
I would say to try and make your property as presentable as possible. It sounds really cheesy but sometimes the smallest thing like some fresh flowers can make such a difference to selling.
Last but definitely not least.. If you were stuck on a desert island with one member of the Coalters team, who would it be and why?
Jo. She’s very calming and good in a crisis. Her ‘Miranda’ impression would keep us laughing.
