New portal ‘run by agents for agents’ in bid to take on Rightmove – 30th October 2009
Radar Homes is aimed at breaking Rightmove’s virtual monopoly, and is already being hailed as the potential internet breakthrough that agents have been waiting for. It will significantly undercut all the paid-for portals, and all agents who subscribe will become shareholders in a regional structure, with full access to accounts and taking a slice of any future profits.

Home owners stuck on bad mortgage deals – 30th October 2009
Mortgage applications rose by 13% last month with most for new purchases. But remortgage applications fell to record low levels as home-owners remained stuck with existing deals due to lack of equity in their properties. Mortgage Advice Bureau, which distributes through estate agents, said that mortgage applications rose 13% in September compared with August. But of the total level, only 28.9% were remortgage applications – down 30% in a year.

Estate agents call for further extension of Stamp Duty holiday – 30th October 2009
Estate agents have called for the Stamp Duty exemption introduced by the Government to be extended beyond the new proposed deadline of 31st December. In an attempt to revive the flagging housing market, Gordon Brown announced last September that properties costing less than £175,000 would not be liable for Stamp Duty for one year. That deadline was then extended in April until the end of 2009.
